Wood pellets are a small, cylindrical type of fuel made from wood. They usually have a diameter of 6mm, with a length of approximately 10-25mm.
Wood pellets are extremely eco-friendly. They’re completely renewable, and for every tree used to make wood pellets another will be planted to replace it. The biggest environmental benefit of burning wood pellets is the low Carbon Dioxide emissions – burning wood pellets emits 90% less CO2 emissions than heating oil. The CO2 released when burning wood pellets is the same amount that is absorbed during the life cycle of the tree and hence the net release of CO2 can be said to be zero.
All of the wood pellets we supply meet the criteria of the ENplus quality standard as set out by the European governing body for this type of fuel. This certification ensures that all the pellets are of a consistent size and moisture content, with low ash content and a high ash melting temperature. As the UK’s first distributor to be awarded the ENplus certification, you can be sure that the pellets we provide are the finest available.
Bagged pellets should be kept dry at all times and should therefore be kept under cover. Loose pellets should be kept in a specially designed pellet store that will have been supplied as part of the original installation.
As long as they are kept in dry conditions, wood pellets can be stored indefinitely. Exposing pellets to moisture will cause them to expand and render them unsuitable for use in boilers. Specially designed wood pellet stores can be purchased which will keep pellets in pristine condition for the longest possible time. It is recommended that wood pellet stores are emptied and cleaned annually in order to stop the build up of excessive amounts of dust.
The percentage of ash produced as a proportion of weight is very low for wood pellets, at less than 0.7%. This means there is very little maintenance of the boiler, and what ash is produced can be used as a fertiliser in the garden.
Yes. The Renewable Heat Incentive, a Government scheme to award regular payments to those who have adopted renewable energy, is already open for applications for commercial and public sector organizations.
Yes, our pellets contain less than 2% of binder which complies with ENPlus A1 guidelines.
Wood pellets are burned in high efficiency stoves, fireplace inserts, and central heating systems. There is very little waste product from burning pellets (with a high quality brand of pellets, you’ll typically see about a quarter cup of ash per bag burned).
Most pellet stoves today are built to burn hardwood or softwood pellets with equal efficiency. So, it’s up to you to select a brand you like based on quality and budget. Softwoods can be more expensive, but with their higher heating value, you will get more heat with less pellets, and far less ash. (You get what you pay for, we recommend softwoods)

All of our pellets are wrapped in protective shrouding, so, yes – they can weather the elements. If you’re going to store your pellets outside, we recommend the following course of action: (1) store your pallets in a high, dry area away from irrigation; (2) inspect your pallets and make sure there are no holes in the shrouding; and (3) cover your pallets with a water-proof tarp for an additional layer of protection.
Our Quality Certification program guarantees that the pellets we sell exceed the ‘premium fuel standards’ defined by the Pellet Fuels Institute. We send our Quality Certified pellets to an independent laboratory to ensure they have less than 1% ash, less than 8% moisture, and a high heating value.
Wood pellets are just that – wood. When stored properly and burned in a modern pellet stove, they are not at all toxic. In transit in large container ships or massive storage silos wood pellets can emit large amounts of carbon monoxide, which is invisible without a detector, and deadly, but that’s an issue for the professionals who make and ship bulk pellets, not homeowners.
Wood pellets themselves are actually not expensive, coming in much cheaper than such alternatives as oil, propane or electric heat (depending on where you live). However, there is an upfront cost of a wood pellet stove or furnace, and good ones are not cheap. The idea is that you’ll incur a short payback period and save money in the long-term by converting to wood pellet systems, all while reducing your carbon footprint.
